When asked to perform a field dynamic balance solution the person that will doing the balancing should make sure of a few things. These are not in any particular order:
- Does the job require a safe work permit?
- Does the job require any particular safety training?
- Has the piece of equipment been diagnosed as to its vibration signatures or the customer wants it balanced because “it’s vibrating”?
- Do you have the correct supplies to do the job?
- This includes the proper type of weights to add to the equipment, Bolts, Nuts, Washers, Clamp-on Friction fit, Glue-on, Weld-on etc
- Method to weigh and attach weights.
- Extra Set screws, Allen wrenches, Blue Loctite.
- Reflective tape for the tachometer signal.
- Is your equipment properly charged, or do you have spare batteries?
- Long enough cables?
- Do you have spare cables, Tach, Sensor etc.?
Remember, Do NOT Stand in line with the rotor or near the motor’s electrical junction box, belts or couplings during startup. Stay outside of a 45-degree cone to right or left of the mentioned items, for safety’s sake.
